Last night, the Brookfield Bulldogs welcomed the South Shelby Cardinals for a pair of basketball games.  The Lady Dogs had trouble with the state-ranked Lady Birds, while the Dogs battled from a game-long deficit to win an exciting game.
In the opening game, the Lady Dogs were outsized dramatically, with the smallest member of the South Shelby girls starting lineup listed at 5’10”.  The Lady Dogs fell behind early, as South Shelby hit a three-pointer to start the game less than a minute in and went on a 7-0 run.  Alyssa Elson ended the run with the Lady Dogs first hoop at the 5:02 mark.  After one quarter, Brookfield was down 25-6.  Elson, Vanessa Shaw, and Kelli Black each had two points.
Quinsie Gall, nursing a foot injury, scored first in the second quarter, with South Shelby answering back 45 seconds later.  Both teams scoring output improved in the second frame, with Brookfield still trailing at the half 44-24.  Gall had eight points in the second quarter.
