The Brookfield Bulldogs have been home for a quartet of basketball games to start off the New Year.  First, the Dogs and Lady Dogs hosted Putnam County, then last night, the teams hosted Trenton.

Last night against Trenton, the Lady Dogs started things off with an exciting contest.  This game would be a barn-burner until its final seconds.
Rebeca Kearns tipped the ball off for Brookfield, and Alesa Frey cut through the lane to take it home.  Brookfield and Trenton were evenly matched in the opening quarter, as they would be all game.  A late three-pointer from Amanda Slater, and a late free throw from Kearns would leave Brookfield trailing 15-14 after one quarter.
Frey’s coast-to-coast basket started scoring quickly for Brookfield in the second quarter.  Brookfield’s foul trouble send Trenton to the line frequently, and it would be these free throws that made the difference in the middle of the second frame.  A 6-0 Brookfield run late in the half earned the team back the lead for the first time since the opening quarter.  At the half, Brookfield led 30-29, thanks to a late hoop by Slater that ended a Trenton run.

Forty seconds into the nightcap, Matt Neeley started the scoring off for Brookfield, and set the local Dogs off on a 4-0 opening run.  Trenton would use outside shooting to keep in the game early, along with taking advantage of Brookfield’s fouls.  After one quarter, the game was tied 12-12, thanks to an Andrew Baum buzzer-beater.
Trenton would score first in the second quarter, and Baum would put Brookfield on the board at the 4:12 mark.  Trenton opened things up a very little bit, to take a 21-17 halftime lead.
