Kyle Wilkens appointed, sworn in as Rural Development State Director for Missouri

On Monday, Kyle Wilkens was appointed and sworn in as the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development State Director for Missouri. “As USDA continues to improve the lives of Americans each day in positive ways, we welcome these talented individuals to advancing our shared mission,” said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.

Helen Doris Liebhart

Helen Doris Liebhart, age 92, died December 12, 2021 at McLarney Manor in Brookfield, MO. Doris was born in New Boston, MO to William and Opal (Bradley) Standley. She married her high school sweetheart, Carl Junior Liebhart, on February 14, 1947. They bought a farm north of New Boston, which continues to be farmed and enjoyed by the family. During their marriage they lived in rural New Boston and Goldsberry and later moved to Brookfield in 1964.

MDC offers free virtual fly-tying classes starting Jan. 3

Flying fishing has two arts. One is the fishing, the other is hand tying flies and lures to catch fish. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer a free virtual fly-tying class between 6 and 8 p.m. every Monday and Thursday evening from Jan. 3 to Jan. 31. These online classes will help newcomers learn how to twine a hook with thread, hackles, feath ers, and fur for fly fishing lures.
