BROOKFIELD — With their only planned action of last week first postponed twice and finally canceled, the Brookfield High School varsity basketball teams returned to action Tuesday, playing in their Clarence Cannon Conference openers at home against Palmyra.
Recently, Alert Joseph and Kenzey Dorrell were named Marceline Middle and High School Students of the Week. Joseph’s activities include Scholar Bowl.
The Marceline Alumni Association is pleased to announce the return of a unique special treasure, the 1949 Fire Clay Bowl trophy, to Marceline High School (MHS). It now sits proudly in a trophy case at MHS for all generations to view. The football trophy’s whereabouts became unknown a few years ago but and with some local help, it has been located and returned to its home in the trophy case.
Phyllis L. Baxley, 91, formerly of Brookfield and Marceline Missouri, passed away January 19, 2022 at Louisburg Health Care.
William Francis Kearns, age 90, of Brookfield, passed peacefully on January 25, 2022. William Francis, son of Grover William and Ica (Jones) Kearns, was born May 27, 1931, in Brookfield.
Wade Merle Coorts, 88, was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven, Sunday, January 16th, 2022. Wade was born in Emden, Illinois on April 17th, 1933, to Ralph A. Coorts and Hannah T. (Wubben) Coorts. On May 8th, 1954, Wade married the love of his life, Marilyn Maxine Karnes. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters: Pamela and Kathy. Wade and Marilyn were married for 66 years at the time of her passing in 2021.
