The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Missouri and County Commissioners of Caldwell County, announced on Dec. 7, an award of a $14,400,486.75 contract to Phillips Hardy, Incorporated of Booneville, to construct the Little Otter Creek Reservoir. The contract award was made through a competitive bid process following years of planning and preparation. Under the contract, a 345-acre reservoir will supply 1.24 million gallons of raw drinking water per day, reduce flooding along Little Otter Creek, and provide recreation for area residents and visitors.

Ayden Spencer, a Junior at Mendon Northwest R-1 School, won the Missouri American Legion District Two Oratorical contest. The District Two Contest was held Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Chillicothe Veterans Building. Spencer presented a speech, with no notes, on the United States Constitution and then an impromptu three-to-five-minute speech on the Eighth Amendment.
