With a couple having been idle from game play for two weeks or longer, a third for just over a week, and the fourth for only a relatively-few days, all four Class 1 high schools within the county or straddling its borders are underway with the 2022 portion of their basketball seasons.
As 2022 begins, some Brookfield High School athletes are looking forward to their opportunity to utilize a new facility. This past fall, about 2-1/2 years after the district’s Board of Education formally approved it and a bit less than two years after the initial work was begun, a new on-site facility for the BHS softball and baseball programs was – for all intents and purposes – completed and a ribbon-cutting ceremony held.

ST. JOSEPH — In more than one way, it wasn’t a good week after Christmas for the Brookfield High School basketball teams collectively on the court and individually healthwise.
The Marceline Fire Department (MFD) recently announced the organization was awarded a grant from MFA corporation in the amount of $2,000 to be used for equipment and training in grain bin rescue. The grant was written by MFD firefighter Brian Mosier. Shown accepting the award is MFD Firefighter Levi Kelly and MFA BPLP Manager Garrett Antoine. This spring firefighters be teaming up with local farmers and MU Fire and Rescue training division to train on the equipment on how to rescue and extricate an individual that is having a grain bin emergency. 2021 ushered in the beginning of an exciting and energetic year for Marceline with new residents, new housing construction, and new business openings - a renaissance if you will – the likes of which we haven’t seen in years! The influx of out of-state license plates and new faces brings new investments in the community as well as business and employment opportunities. Why Marceline? Roger A. Cupp, 54, Marceline, was arrested by the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control on Friday, Dec. 23, for felony sex offenses ranging from Sexual Exploitation of a Minor Child, Child Molestation - 1st Degree, Statutory Sodomy - 1st Degree, and Possession of Child Pornography. He was being held on $100,000 bond.
