MACON — It didn’t take long to solidify the final-round status of Marceline High School’s basketball teams in this week’s Macon Invitational Tournament. With only six schools entered, the tourney used a 2-pools, round-robin format for each gender to determine the pairings for the first-, third-, and fifth-place games late in the week.

The host Lady Eagles, 2-times defending champs, are seeded second behind Mercer, while Mendon: Northwestern’s boys, upset in last year’s semifinals by Grundy County R-5/Newtown-Harris before Meadville took the crown, are seeded first ahead of GCR-5/Newtown-Harris this year.
