The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is announcing several new and expanded opportunities for climate-smart agriculture in 2022. Updates include nationwide availability of the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) Conservation Incentive Contracts option and added flexibilities for producers to easily re-enroll in the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP). These improvements to NRCS’ working lands conservation programs, combined with continued program opportunities in Missouri, are part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s broader effort to support climate-smart agriculture.

Cracking down on mail theft is the goal of a bill approved by a House committee Monday. The legislation, proposed by state Rep. Adam Schwadron, R-St. Charles, creates penalties for the theft of packages and other mail known as “porch piracy.”

The deadline is quickly approaching for Missouri agriculture students interested in applying for the 2022 Missouri Corn Scholarship Program. High school and college students pursuing a career in agronomy or other agriculture-related field must submit the necessary forms no later than Feb.

Trees are still in winter’s grip in February, but it takes just a few warm days during the month to make tree sap flow in anticipation of spring. That sap can be collected and turned into sweet syrup, especially maple syrup. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer a free virtual maple sugaring program from rom 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 15.
