Although he’s the one actually lying on the mat, senior Hunter Nelson of the Marceline High School wrestling Tigers actually has control and is scoring near-fall points against Ethan Jackson of Cape Girardeau: Notre Dame during their first-round bout in the 182-pounds weight division of the Class 1 state tournament last Thursday. Nelson, expected to be a strong contender for another state medal and possibly battle for the state title, sustained an apparent head injury in his quarterfinal bout and had to withdraw from the competition after a 33-5 season.
