Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Found In Missouri Wild Birds

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has confirmed that highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been detected in an American white pelican in Clay County, Mo. Confirmation came from the National Veterinary Services Lab in Ames, Iowa. Additionally, the University of Missouri Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Lab has confirmed positive birds from Pettis, Randolph, and St. Charles counties.

Senate Bill 40 Holds Talent Show

Linn County Senate Bill 40 staff and workers put on their annual talent show, for the Brookfield community on March 11 at the Brookfield Park Baptist Church. The entertainment consisted of Brittney Spears, Village People, cheerleaders, dance numbers and special guest Elvis. The crowd cheered and clapped during the performances.

Marceline Scholar Bowl Results

Carter Vandeloecht (left) earned first team Lewis and Clark All-Conference and All-Tournament honors this season. He was the second leading scorer in both the regular season and conference tournament. Rhea Krumpelman (right) earned Second Team All-Tournament honors at this weekend’s LCC Tournament. The Marceline Tigers Scholar Bowl team went 2-1 at the tournament, finishing fifth. The team was the third seed going into the event.

Marceline City Council Candidate Profile: Brian Baker

Brian Baker is one of three people running for two seats on the Marceline City Council during the April 5 Municipal Election. Since moving to Marceline nine years ago Baker, who serves as Pastor at First Baptist Church of Marceline, has found himself involved in a variety of organizations, and when he heard about the opening on the council, decided this was a good time for him to run for office.

Blackwell sentenced to 12 years in DOC Last week, Alexander Blackwell was sentenced to 12 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections in Linn County Court. In a press release, Linn County Prosecutor Shiante McMahon said Blackwell will serve 8 years for second degree domestic assault as a prior offender, five years for a second charge of domestic assault and four years for unlawful use of a weapon will run concurrently to each other and the 8 years.
