Hannah Arlene Smith of Marceline was among 3,523 graduates who received degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln during commencement exercises May 13 and 14. Smith earned a Doctor of Audiology from the Office of Graduate Studies.
Saturday afternoon, May 14, Legionnaires Robert Jobson, Wayne Kitchen, and Ralph Thomas conducted an American flag class at the Winigan 4-H Club meeting. 4-Hers were taught the meaning of the 13 folds of a flag and then had hands on training in how to fold an American flag. There is a $3 suggested contribution for meals for those 60 years and over and $6.75 cost for meals for those 59 years and under. Meals are delivered Monday thru Friday, from 10:30 – 12:00, except on holidays.

Jaren Hooten, 26, Bucklin, has been found guilty of two counts of first-degree statutory sodomy by a Linn County jury on May 12 after a two day trial. The Linn County Prosecuting Attorney reports that sentencing is scheduled for July 5.

Stephanie Kussman Pitts, age 56, died Thursday, May 13, 2022, at her home in Overland Park, Kansas. Stephanie was born, August 30, 1965, to C. Michael and Rita Kussman in West Point, Nebraska. Stephanie served in the Army Reserves where she met her husband and soulmate, Jeff Pitts of Sulligent, Alabama, in 1990. They were married on September 3, 1994, In Marceline, Missouri. Their everlasting love is an example of true devotion and commitment to each other.
