Brookfield’s State Track Duo Stands Tall, Has 4-Medals Haul

JEFFERSON CITY — With a school-record breaking performance by one new graduate and led one last time by distance-running phenom and also new BHS alum Alexandra “Alex” Sharp, Brookfield High School returned home Saturday night from the 2022 Missouri State High School Activities Association Track-and- Field Championships with three top-3 medals, but, for the first time in several years, no state champion.

Poppy: A Remembrance Of Fallen Heroes

“In Flanders fields the poppies blow / Between the crosses, row on row … .” So begins “In Flanders Fields,” written in 1915 by John McCrae, a Canadian poet and military physician. “The hauntingly eloquent words of McCrae helped to immortalize poppy as one of the most recognized symbols honoring soldiers who have died in combat,” said University of Missouri Extension horticulturist David Trinklein.

Public Comment Period Opens On Draft Statewide Transportation Improvement Program

The draft FY 2023-2027 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) was presented to the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission, on May 18. A 30-day public review and comment period ends June 17. The STIP makes available $9.9 billion of federal and state revenues for all modes of transportation over the next five years. Of the $9.9 billion, the draft STIP details $7.69 billion in road and bridge construction contractor awards, averaging approximately $1.5 billion per year.

Letter To The Editor – Memorial Day

To the Editor: As the daughter, sister, niece, cousin and wife of a War World II and Vietnam veterans, I hold a special place in my heart for the parents, siblings, spouses, and friends of those who served. I can’t help but think of all the men and women who have gone to fight for this great nation and didn’t return home.
