Memorial Day weekend is a highly anticipated opportunity for people to enjoy Missouri’s state parks, lakes, sporting events, and attractions. This means more travelers on Missouri’s roadways and an increase in boating traffic on the state’s lakes and rivers. Drivers and boat operators are reminded to follow all Missouri’s laws and be courteous. Safety should always be part of your weekend plans. Always wear a seat belt when traveling in a vehicle and wear a life jacket when near, on, or in the water.

Candidates Meet At Marceline

Thursday evening, May 19, Democrat candidates met at Marceline Disney Park for the Linn County Democrat Club meeting. Charles West-candidate for U.S. Congress District 6, Michael Baumli-candidate for State Senate District 12, and Shiante McMahon-candidate for Linn County Prosecuting Attorney spoke to the club members. Candidate West stated his priorities are education, infrastructure and farms. Candidate Baumli said his Information Technology background will be invaluable in setting up a Missouri advisory board for cyber security. Incumbent Prosecutor McMahon said the Linn County Sheriff's Department, Brookfield, and Marceline Police Departments have all been receiving training in investigative reporting which is invaluable to assisting the prosecution's office. Club President Dennis Van Dyke reported all schools in Linn County that submitted scholarships requests received $300 for the applying senior.

Ribbon Cutting Held For Better Days

Recently, Brookfield Chamber of Commerce held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new program at Creative Pathways, Better Days a DMH (Department of Mental Health) service. Participants days will revolve around a variety of activities that are designed to increase independence as well as relationship building and to enhance their quality of life. Better Days is open Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
