An Amtrack train carrying 275 passengers and 12 crew members hit a truck at Porche Prairie Avenue just outside of Mendon at 1:43 p.m., killing four people, including the driver of the truck and injuring numerous others.

Mitchell C. McGowan, age 88 of Marceline, died Friday, June 24, 2022 at Pioneer Skilled Nursing Center, Marceline. Mitchell was born in Marceline, Missouri on July 2, 1933 to Clyde and Agnes Lorraine (Morris) McGowan. He married Rose Marie Smith in 1953 and she survives him.
