Dairy Dietary Guidelines

The value of a well-balanced diet is undeniable. An eating plan that includes foods from the various food groups ensures individuals get an assortment of healthy vitamins, minerals and nutrients. Certain foods may need to be avoided by individuals with preexisting conditions, but those without such restrictions can follow dietary guidelines from the United States Departments of Agriculture and Health and Human Services. Those guidelines include various recommendations regarding dairy consumption.

Summer Water Safety Tips

Colonel Eric T. Olson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, encourages everyone to incorporate safety into any plans to enjoy Missouri’s waterways. Nicer weather means an increase in activity regarding boating, swimming, and floating. Col. Olson reminds everyone that troopers patrol the state’s waterways to enforce Missouri’s boating laws and assist where needed. Everyone is asked to do their part to help ensure a safe summer.

Feeding and Attracting Hummingbirds

The avian influenza (AI) has some residents questioning if it is safe to feed hummingbirds and other birds this year. The answer is yes, according to Robert Piece, Associate Extension Professor in Fisheries and Wildlife for the University of Missouri Extension. Dr. Pierce added, “Evidence does not indicate at this time that widespread removal of feeders is necessary or an effective way of reducing the spread.” In addition, songbirds do not appear to be major carriers of the virus.

City of Marceline 2022 Independence Day Celebration

Marceline's 2022 Independence Day Celebration will run from June 30-July 4 with a carnival by Jones& Company. Advance arm bands are $20 each and can be purchased at C&W Hardware, June 10-30 from 8 a.m., – 5 p.m. Arm bands can be purchased nightly at the carnival for $25. Mega pass arm bands, which are good for the entire carnival can be purchased for $85 each at C&W Hardware, June 10-30 from 8 a.m., – 5 p.m., or they can be purchased at the carnival for $85.

Jackson, Turner, Jones Sentenced

On June 7, James Jackson, Clarence Turner and Nicholas Jones were all sentenced to time in the Missouri Department of Corrections by the Linn County Court. According to a press release by Shiante McMahon, Linn County Prosecuting Attorney, the court sentenced Jackson on two felony counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, and one felony count of Possession of more than 20 images of Child Pornography.
