Runaway leaders of the league during last summer’s regular-season play with an astounding 32-5 record before being unjustly denied the league’s official title by a single, last-inning loss in the league playoffs, the A’s – far and away the loop’s senior member – jumped ahead 6-0 in the first two innings of Chillicothe’s home opener on “Chuck” Haney Field at “June” Shaffer Memorial Park last Thursday (June 2) and were never threatened as they won 14-7 to improve to 2-0.

Despite a rain-out of their scheduled home opener a week ago today, the Chillicothe Mudcats college-level, summer wood-bat baseball team has its 20th season of play underway. After hosting three games at "June" Shaffer Memorial Park Stadium's "Chuck" Haney Field the latter part of last week, the team hosted (weather permitting) defending MINK League playoffs champion and top rival St. Joseph last night and is due to have home contests tomorrow, Friday and Saturday at 7:05 p.m. as part of a busy slate of early-season home dates.
