League Foe Picks Up Where It Left Off In 2021, Clubs Mudcats

JUNE 2 GAME CLARINDA, IOWA 14 MUDCATS 7 Although only a few of this year’s Chillicothe Mudcats had first-hand understanding of it, the Clarinda (Iowa) A’s last Thursday quickly underscored their intent to be just as formidable in MINK League baseball in 2022 as they were in 2021. Runaway leaders of the league during last summer’s regular-season play with an astounding 32-5 record before being unjustly denied the league’s official title by a single, last-inning loss in the league playoffs, the A’s – far and away the loop’s senior member – jumped ahead 6-0 in the first two innings of Chillicothe’s home opener on “Chuck” Haney Field at “June” Shaffer Memorial Park last Thursday (June 2) and were never threatened as they won 14-7 to improve to 2-0.

Mudcats On The Move For ’22

Despite a rain-out of their scheduled home opener a week ago today, the Chillicothe Mudcats college-level, summer wood-bat baseball team has its 20th season of play underway. After hosting three games at "June" Shaffer Memorial Park Stadium's "Chuck" Haney Field the latter part of last week, the team hosted (weather permitting) defending MINK League playoffs champion and top rival St. Joseph last night and is due to have home contests tomorrow, Friday and Saturday at 7:05 p.m. as part of a busy slate of early-season home dates. The team's season will run through late July with nearly two dozen home games for local and area fans of all ages to enjoy. (Butch Shaffer/C-T PHOTOS)

Mudcats Slow Foe Saturday, Still Slip To 0-4

JUNE 3-4 GAMES SEDALIA 12 MUDCATS 4 SEDALIA 5 MUDCATS 3 In their search for a first victory in their 2022 season, the Chillicothe Mudcats made progress Saturday night, highlighted by a Bo Jackson-like throw that cut down a potential run at home plate. However, even though they limited their opponent to single-digit runs for the first time in four tries and had speedy outfielder Jonas Espinal deliver his second 4-hits game already this young season, the visiting Sedalia Bombers’ 5-3 triumph kept their quest unrequited.
