Lucy Kjos, a Linn County Home Schooler, won the Brookfield General John J Pershing Post 4557 Patriot Pen Essay Contest. On May 17, at the Brookfield VFW hall, Kjos read her winning essay, "My Pledge to Our Veterans." The essay contest encourages youth to examine American history along with their own experiences by drafting a 300-400 word essay.
