Mudcats Can’t Close Deal To Close MINK Gap

Just as the Chillicothe Mudcats’ narrow path to the 2022 MINK League playoffs was on the verge of becoming significantly less implausible early Monday morning, it encountered a hairpin turn the club couldn’t quite negotiate. Whether the result was plunging off the road and down the mountainside or just slamming hard on the brakes remained to be determined over the next seven days.

“Broadway In Brookfield”

Alumni of Brookfield High School brought Broadway to Main Street Brookfield during the annual Alumni Parade on July 16. The theme this year was "Broadway in Brookfield". This year's four judges were : Carole Miller Kennedy - who taught in Brookfield from 1963 to 1979; Victor Stuart who taught in Brookfield from 1973 to 1981, Debbie Fite Benitz who taught in Brookfield from 1994 to 2001 and Mickey Beach Sr. who taught in Brookfield from 1995 to 2013.

Bettie Jo Bernard Hartig

Bettie Jo Bernard Hartig passed away peacefully Thursday, July 14, 2022 at her daughter’s home in St. Catharine, MO. She was born at home in Taylor, TX on June 4, 1932 and grew up in the Waco area of TX. She was proud of her first “real” job at Amicable Life Insurance Co. in Houston and would tell stories of being a determined red head and making a career for herself. After moving to El Paso, Texas in her 20’s, she worked at Standard Oil Refinery as a secretary, where she met her husband, Frank, and they were married for 54 years before his passing in September of 2015. After leaving Std. Oil, she worked as a secretary for Robert E. McKee Construction Company for many years before the family’s move to Benicia, CA in 1976. Once in CA, Bettie took on secretary temp jobs thru Kelly’s Temp Service and continued to work until she retired in 1987 to become a full-time grandmother and assist in lovingly caring for all her grandchildren through the years. In the words of her granddaughter in law “She was a grandma to all”.

Tex Edward Othic

Tex Edward Othic was born on on August 1st, 1944, in Brookfield, MO to Leo and Lois (Howk) Othic. He lived his entire childhood in Linneus, MO and attended school there until his graduation in 1962. Following graduation Tex joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for 3 years with the 3rd Infantry Division. After his military service Tex worked for the railroad, the Missouri State Highway Department, and Thomas Hill power plant.

Dorsal Fin To Wall, Mudcats Stare Down League Leaders Friday

When the MINK League-leading Clarinda (Iowa) A’s, with typical efficiency, used a misplayed double, a rightside groundout, and a simple single through the left side of the “Chuck” Haney Field infield to seize a 1-0 lead over the Chillicothe Mudcats three batters into last Friday night’s contest, it seemed to be a precursor of a 13th-consecutive A’s victory over the Mudcats over the past two seasons.
