Top-Ranked Marceline Outlasts Brookfield 8-3 On Diamond Monday

The county’s two Class 2 high school softball programs – each having winning seasons going – produced a well-contested battle when squared off at Marceline’s Disney Park field last Monday. As would have been anticipated, when the last out was recorded, the defending Class 2 state-champion Marceline squad had prevailed over Brookfield, but not without a challenge.

Jo Ann Langford

Jo Ann (Ellis) Langford, 72 of Kansas City, MO, died on September 22, 2022. She was born September 17, 1950 in Kansas City, MO to Rudolph and Kathryn (Whitt) Ellis. Survivors include sons, Rodney Downey and Calvin Langford Jr. (Michelle) both of KCMO; stepson Danny Langford (Laurie), Lusby, MD; daughter Kathy Stevenson (Shane), Cameron, 2 stepdaughters, Irene Borland and Gwen Haslett both of Independence, 1 brother Rudy L. Ellis, Independence, 22 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and many other relatives. She was preceded by her parents, husband Calvin Langford Sr., significant other Thomas Leonard, 4 brothers, Donald D., Michael W., Robert, and Rudy D. Ellis, 5 sisters, Judith Mackley, Donna Yeisley, Connie Ruhl, Deborah Gregory, Rhonda Huff, son Lawrence Downey, daughter-in-law Angie, stepdaughter Betty Richardson and stepson Darrell Langford. Funeral services were held October 1, 2022 at Delaney Funeral Home, Marceline. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorial cards may be mailed to Delaney Funeral Home 1720 N. Local Utility Crews Deploy For Hurricane Ian Recovery

Hometown utility electric line crews from Missouri and Arkansas are on their way to Florida, to perform recovery work in the wake of Hurricane Ian. Organized by the Missouri Public Utility Alliance, lineworker crews from 13 utilities are traveling to Orlando, where they will be dispatched to Florida municipal utilities that need electric restoration after the storm passes.
