Marceline, New Coach Still Seek First Football Win Of ’22
MARCELINE — Disappointingly for all involved, the search for the first Marceline High School football win under new head coach Joey Peterson will extend into a fourth week. Trying to rebound from the prior week’s “Bell Game” home loss to Brookfield, MHS’ Tigers were caged 34-8 by the Harrisburg Bulldogs in both teams’ 2022 Lewis and Clark Conference opener at MHS’ Chester Ray Stadium last Friday.

Eugene “Cooney” Garton, age 80, of Sumner, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at his home. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 15, 2022, from 5:00 p.m.
John W. Eads
John W. Eads, age 78 of Lawson and Marceline, died Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at his home. John was born in Marceline, Missouri on October 14, 1943 to Oley and Lena (Dometrorch) Eads. He married Trudy Dorrell on December 30, 1993. John had worked at General Motors in Kansas City. He was a member of the UAW Local #31 and the Knights of Columbus in Cameron. He is survived by his wife Trudy Eads of Marceline, son Eric Eads and wife Tonie of Kansas City, MO, daughter Barbara Bloss and husband Shannon of Colorado Springs, CO, step sons; Doug and Tauna Billups of Sherwood, Arkansas and Joe and Dana Billups of Marceline, step daughter Julie Billups of Marceline, three sisters Linda Pollard and husband Donald, Evelyn McCloud and husband Paul, all of Lawson, and Loretta Eads of Columbia, ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Carolyn Pfleuger and Elizabeth Corbin. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, September 12, 2022 at Delaney Funeral Home in Marceline with visitation starting at 10 AM. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Marceline. Memorials may be made to the Marceline Nutrition Site and mailed to Delaney Funeral Home 1720 N. Missouri Ave., Marceline, MO 64658.

Marshall Holt Smith, age 97, resident at Morningside Assisted Living Chillicothe, Mo. Passed away on Monday August 15, 2022, at Morningside Nursing in Chillicothe, Mo. A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday September 20, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home in Brookfield, Mo. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place October 22, 2022, in Woodbine Cemetery in Ellsworth, Maine.
