Golf Lady Tigers Open With Pair Of Wins Tuesday

TRENTON — With their returning state medalist “doing her thing” and generating three of the fourbest rounds of the match, Marceline High School’s golf Lady Tigers jumped into the new season smartly last Tuesday with a pair of dual- match road triumphs. Coach Paige Hale’s squad, coming off a district championship in 2021, began the new campaign with a low-4 score of 222, 17 strokes ahead of Brookfield and 21 up on Trenton. MHS senior Tess Sheerman showed the way to the twin wins, parring a pair of holes (the par-4 fourth and par-3 seventh) as she carded a 46 that was nine strokes better than anyone else’s round at the Trenton Country Club course.

Diamond Lady ’Dogs Chew Up Hamilton In Opening Win

Following the previous Friday’s football opener at home, three more Brookfield High School fall sports programs initiated 2022 competition early this week with the softball Lady Bulldogs emerging impressively victorious on the road. The Lady ’Dogs of the diamond took apart host Hamilton: Penney 13-5 Tuesday, one day after Hamilton lost only 7-0 to the defending Class 2 state-champion Marceline Lady Tigers at Marceline.

The Missouri Department of Conservation announced on Aug. 17 that a fifth state-record fish for 2022 had been taken on May 16 when a 14-pounds, 6-ounces shortnose gar was arrowed by a Nebraska man, Rich Porter, at Lake of the Ozarks.
