National Hunting and Fishing Day (NHFD) occurs each year on the fourth Saturday of September. So, you can either look at this column as a week late or 51 weeks early. Either way, hunting and fishing isn’t something to celebrate for one day. Both are much more important than that. Last week, State Auditor Nicole Galloway released a regularly scheduled audit of Grundy County. Similar to findings in prior audits of the county, the sheriff's office is in need of stronger seized property controls and the Ambulance Department is in need of stronger accounting controls and procedures. The audit also recommended stronger cybersecurity protocols on county government computer systems.

Clay Creech, 56, Sumner, has been found guilty and sentenced in Linn County Court in charges of Hindering Prosecution and Tampering With Physical Evidence. According to Linn County Prosecutor Shiante McMahon, last week, the court sentenced Creech to 10 days in jail on each count, execution of which was suspended, he was then placed on probation for two years.
