In recognition of the many groups and organizations in our area that are working to meet ever-growing needs of all types the Linn County Leader is compiling a list of local non-profits and any possible needs the group may have along with any need for volunteers to be published before and during and after the holiday season encouraging area residents to give back.
FBLA Plans Food Drive in Marceline On Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 6-7 p.m., the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter at Marceline High School will be walking around town collecting food and non-food donations for Marceline’s Coordinated Welfare Council.
At the regular meeting of the Marceline City Council on Oct. 18, the Council adopted Ordinance #35.2233, formally changing the regular meeting dates to 5:30 p.m., on the second Wednesday each month, starting in the month of November.

Approximately 50 members and guests of the 9th Judicial Circuit (Linn, Sullivan & Chariton counties) met recently at 1820, The Family Restaurant, in Keytesville for the 9th Circuit Bar's annual meeting. Attendees included four Missouri Supreme Court judges, judges from the Western District Court of Appeals and the Executive Director of the Missouri Bar. It is a long standing tradition for the 9th Circuit Bar meeting to be the first public speaking engagement for each year's new Missouri Bar President as it was for Lauren Tucker McCubbins, '22-23 MO Bar President. Next year's officers for the 9th Circuit were elected with Dale Linneman re-elected as President, Mitch Jenkins elected as Vice President and Tracy Carlson re-elected as Treasurer.
MARCELINE — While it’s far from accurate geographically, competitively, Elsberry stands between Marceline High School’s softball Lady Tigers and a return engagement in Springfield for the Class 2 state semifinals and finals. After surviving a scare from a determined Trenton team in last week’s Class 2 District 6 Tournament semifinals, the Lady Tigers waltzed past second-seeded South Harrison 8-0 in the championship game last Saturday, putting MHS in the state tournament for a third time in four year and preserving its opportunity to capture consecutive state crowns.
In celebration of the company’s 85th anniversary and their commitment to literacy, Walsworth is making $2,500 donations to schools and literacy programs near each of its six locations. Checks were presented to both the Marceline R-V Schools and the Brookfield R-III School District by CEO Don O. Walsworth and CFO Jeff Vogel on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
