SALISBURY — It realistically can’t be viewed any other way. This season’s Meadville High School basketball Lady Eagles are “the real deal.” Taking down state-ranked teams from higher classifications in both the semifinals and championship game of the Salisbury Invitational tournament last Thursday and Saturday, the MHS girls (13-0) clearly established their ceiling – serious state-championship contention.

While Meadville’s girls were making big news in the Salisbury Invitational tournament (see story on page B1), the county’s other Class 1 basketball schools were resuming their seasons after New Year’s Day with exactly mixed results.

Edged Mid-Buchanan 42-36, Handled Hamilton by 33 MARCELINE — With a fill-in providing the key win in overtime, Brookfield High School’s wrestling Bulldogs shaded the Mid-Buchanan Dragons 42-36 in dual-match action at Marceline High School’s fieldhouse last Thursday night, completing a sweep of a pair of matches against Kansas City Interscholastic (KCI) Conference opponents.
