GriefShare Meetings held at Moms Breaking the Silence Center Moms Breaking the Silence, a nonprofit organization in Linn County dedicated to suicide awareness and prevention, holds GriefShare meetings at the office center on Monday nights at 6 p.m. The center is located at 201 N. Main Street, Brookfield.
The Linn County Commission met on this date with Commissioners King, Murrain and Muck and Clerk Stephenson present. Presiding Commissioner King called the meeting to order.
Father McCartan Memorial School recently received test score results for the Fall Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS). All students, Grades 3-8, throughout the Diocese of Jefferson City Catholic schools, participate in the standardized test every year. The Diocesan averages were all above national averages at each grade level.

Take 11 personal titles as boys earn crown, girls second MARSHALL — With an overpowering show of force in having half of the individual champions, Brookfield High School’s wrestling Bulldogs handily earned the team championship of last Saturday’s 13-schools Marshall Tournament. The strong Lady Bulldogs squad, which had brought home ninth place from a massive (82-schools) tournament at Columbia: Battle the last weekend of 2022, nearly made it a clean BHS sweep of the Marshall team crowns.
Tigers continue quest for first 2022-23 victory Marceline High School’s varsity basketball teams segued from one tournament right into another this week, following last week’s mixed-results participation in the Salisbury Invitational with competition this week in the 63rd Milan Invitational. Both the third-seeded Lady Tigers (7-4) and eighth-seeded Tigers (0-10) saw first-round action at Milan Monday – the girls facing Novinger and the boys top seed Putnam County.

The last of the many Missouri deer and turkey hunting seasons will end this Sunday (Jan. 15) when the almost-4-month long archery seasons are over.

The 20th Northern Missouri bridge to be replaced under the FARM (Fixing Access to Rural Missouri) Bridge Program is scheduled to close soon. The Linn County Route WW bridge over Van Dorsen Creek, located approximately 2.5 miles east of Marceline, is scheduled to remain closed through May 2023.
