Missouri Main Street Connection Hosts Main Street Capitol Day

Missouri Main Street Connection Inc, (MMSC) hosted Main Street Capitol Day in Jefferson City on January 24, 2023. The annual event gathered Main Street communities across the state to visit with legislators to celebrate their achievements through participating in the Missouri Main Street state-wide revitalization program. Members of Main Street organizations throughout the state shared information and insight with the legislators about the impact Main Street has had on their communities. MMSC has advanced economic and workforce development in both Main Street communities and the entire state of Missouri. Utilizing the principles of economic development taught by Missouri Main Street Connection, has also helped local Main Street organizations create more resilient local economies in the downtown districts that are better equipped to weather economic hardships.

Meadville Girls Claim Own Crown Unchallenged

Roll through own tourney with “running clocks,” add pair of tougher games MEADVILLE — Nailbiters were largely out of fashion during last week’s 44th-annual Meadville Invitational tournament with only four of the 22 total games ending with single-digits differences. Not unexpectedly, the undefeated host Lady Eagles marauded their three opponents, playing the final quarter of each game with leads of at least 30 points – meaning the game clock rarely stopped in those frames.

Missouri FFA Members “The Wizard of FFA”

Over 4,500 first-year FFA members from more than 350 Missouri High Schools had the opportunity to learn about being positive role models, learning to get involved, making sound choices, becoming active team members and making a positive difference in their lives, school and community at the annual Greenhand Motivational Conferences. These conferences presented by the State FFA Officers and sponsored by MFA Incorporated were held January 9-13, 2023 throughout Missouri.

Rosemary Ellen Wellman, age 90, of Marceline, passed away January 26, 2023 at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. Rosemary was born on March 25, 1932 in Hardin County, Iowa to James Faris and Edith Seward Faris.

Winning Week on Hardwoods for Marceline Girls

Marceline High School’s basketball Lady Tigers were eight minutes away from a perfect 3-0 week last week, but couldn’t quite close the deal at home. Following an early-week 52-45 triumph at Milan and a home Lewis and Clark Conference 46-39 decision over Scotland County the night before, the Lady Tigers (12-8, 3-1 conf.) led visiting North Shelby for most or all of the first three quarters of their game last Friday before the Lady Raiders uncorked a 26-points final frame to pull out a 62-56 verdict.

BHS Basketball Girls Reach 15 Wins with Sharp Triumph

While they haven’t fashioned anything more than a 5-games winning streak, the 2022-23 Brookfield High School basketball Lady Bulldogs have used steadily- solid work to reach three times that many victories with the final month of the regular season still ahead of them. At home last Friday night, what BHS girls’ head coach Ronnie Sharp labels a “great win for us” saw the Lady ’Dogs bite Ewing: Highland’s Lady Cougars, 44-38.
