Women Legislators Scholarship

The Women Legislators of Missouri are sponsoring 16, $1000 scholarships for young women who have shown excellence in leadership, academics, and community service. Candidates must submit a 500-word essay answering the question, “If you were a state legislator, what is one specific goal that you would hope to achieve and why?” The application is located at http://bit.ly/molegwomen. Deadline for submission is March 1, 2023.

District 7: Representing Carroll, Linn, Livingston and Ray counties Things are moving at a fast pace with committee meetings taking up the bulk of our time these last two weeks in the Missouri House of Representatives. House Joint Resolution 43 regarding protecting the right of all Missouri citizens to make their voices heard while also preventing the initiative petition process from being abused by out-ofstate big bucks that have no ties to our state was passed out of the Elections and Elected Officials committee I chair with the intent to be presented for floor debate the first week of February. The facts that came out during committee include that the current Missouri Constitution has been changed more than 60 times since 1954 and that our state is one of only 18 states that allow constitutional change through this process with Missouri having one of the largest state constitutions in the country.

Missouri Corn scholarship applications due Feb. 10

The deadline is quickly approaching for Missouri agriculture students interested in applying for a 2023 Missouri Corn Scholarship. High school and college students pursuing a career in agronomy or other agriculture-related field must submit the necessary forms no later than Feb. 10 to be eligible for one of seven $1,000 scholarships sponsored by the Missouri Corn Growers Association and the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council.

Two projects are located in Linn County

Governor Mike Parson recently announced that the Department of Economic Development (DED) has awarded a total of $261 million through the ARPA Broadband Infrastructure Grant Program to 60 recipients for projects that will expand and improve internet access statewide, including two in Linn County. Projects receiving funds are expected to create more than 55,000 connections in locations that previously lacked adequate internet access. “We’re proud to announce the recipients of the Broadband Infrastructure Grant Program, which represents a major step forward in strengthening Missouri’s internet connectivity,” Governor Parson said. “Our goal with American Rescue Plan Act funds is to make investments that have a lasting, positive impact for Missourians statewide. Today, we have accomplished that for broadband expansion, which is vital to supporting education, health care, business, and agriculture in today’s economy.”
