Blue Mound mystery solved

This photo on the front cover of “The Blue Mound Chronicles” book shows a gentleman labeled; Dr Biship (sic) dressed in what appears to be a buffalo skin coat (second from right). Gary Maberry, co-author of the book, and I tried unsuccessfully to find out who he was and what his connection was to Blue Mound before the book was published. Recently, I found two articles in the May 12, 1899 issue of the Braymer Bee newspaper listing his obituary and funeral. He was Dr. Calvin S. Bishop who practiced medicine in the Braymer area and died at the age of 46 (5 years after the photo was taken) and is buried in the Plymouth Cemetery. The photo was provided by Joe Barnes of Kearny, Missouri Submitted by Joe G. Dillard, Senior Author of “The Blue Mound Chronicles: Stories and History of a Small Missouri Town.”
