COLUMBIA — Joined as a 2022-23 state medalist by two teammates, Brookfield High School freshman Jayden Keller left no doubt during last week’s state tournament who the class of Missouri’s Class 1 girls’ wrestling 110-pounds weight division is. Entering state competition with a single loss in 52 bouts, she blazed through her four state-tournament opponents in the University of Missouri’s Mizzou Arena in a combined 233 seconds – less than four minutes – to claim the first of what project to be multiple state championships.

Opened state play last night; other county Class 1 teams finished MEADVILLE — To the surprise of absolutely no one – even the uninformed or disinterested, Meadville High School’s basketball Lady Eagles (27-0) strolled through the Class 1 District 12 Tournament they hosted last week without challenge, ushering them into state-tournament play which tipped off last night at Salisbury with a game against heavy-underdog North Shelby. Should they have won at that familiar site, where they began their still-perfect season with a mid-November victory over Glasgow, they’ll spend the next couple of days preparing for a Saturday state-quarterfinals contest against either Laddonia: Community R-6 or St.
The North Missouri Sportsman’s Alliance (NMSA) will be conducting two events simultaneously on Saturday, March 11, at the Elks Lodge in Chillicothe. Both events are free to all who choose to participate.
I’m a historian/historic preservation specialist, parent of two, a former college- level English instructor, and a disabled Army veteran. I am an outsider to rural Missouri communities like those in Linn County, and thankful to everyone in the communities I’ve visited and spoke with who have welcomed me with open arms as I attempt to help cities and owners of historic and potentially historic properties find their place on the National Register of Historic Places and help them qualify for funding opportunities to preserve history. I’m from Michigan originally. My mother was born and raised in a rural northern Michigan county that had at the time as many residents as Marceline does currently. I spent nearly every holiday break and most summers “up north”. I learned to hunt, trap and fish in that town. It was simple there, not the rat race of the city. I had to endure school in Detroit, but my heart was always in rural Michigan. I often joke that growing up I didn’t dare date anyone in the county because I was related to 90% of the population by blood or through marriage.
