BHS Track, Field Girls Champs of Own, Marceline Meets

With sophomore distance runner Samantha “Sam” Sharp and their four relay-race units shouldering the largest load, Brookfield High School’s track-and-field Lady Bulldogs captured the championships of their two in-county meets last week. After prevailing with a 20-points cushion over South Shelby in Marceline’s Derek Becker Relays a week ago yesterday, the Lady ’Dogs battled with Palmyra for the biggest bone in BHS’ annual Gary Ewing Invitational meet last Friday.

Star Light Fantasy

Brookfield High School Prom 2023 was surely a night to remember for those attending the “Star Light Fantasy” themed event at the high school on April 22. The dance followed the customary Grand March where friends and family filled the gym waiting to celebrate this year’s prom goers.

Delayed: Chariton County Route D Clark Branch Bridge closure

The closure of the Chariton County Route D bridge over Clark Branch, located approximately 1 mile east of Missouri Route 5, has been delayed again due to equipment availability. The bridge is now expected to close on Monday, May 8.The Clark Branch Bridge, along with the East Fork of Bee Branch Bridge, located 0.5 miles west of Route 129 will be replaced under the FARM (Fixing Access to Rural Missouri) Bridge Program.

NFL Draft in Downtown Kansas City Tomorrow Through Saturday

With some Kansas City Chiefs fans probably still celebrating the team’s second National Football League championship in four years nearly three months later, the NFL brings its annual draft of collegiate players to downtown Kansas City’s Union Station tomorrow through Saturday, an event which figures to bring many thousands back to the site of the post-Super Bowl celebration program. The first round of the 2023 NFL Draft presented by Bud Light will be held tomorrow evening, with the remaining six rounds spread across Friday and Saturday.

Most County Prep Diamond Squads Need Late Push to Have Winning Years

The six high school baseball programs in or virtually bordering Linn County will need positive finishes to their 2023 regular seasons over the next couple of weeks to have a chance at winning seasons. As this week began, only Linn County R-1 and the Thunder 3-way co-op between Mendon: Northwestern, Brunswick, and Keytesville were above ground, each at 4-3.

FCS Financial Awards local students scholarships

FCS Financial recently selected 34 recipients for their Scholarship Program who will each receive a $1,500 scholarship to assist with the cost of higher education. Since 2004, more than $825,000 has been distributed through the FCS Financial Scholarship Program. The program is designed to encourage and support higher education for children and grandchildren of FCS Financial members.
