A Golden Glow of Summer’s Past

There’s something magical about summer. Not the kind of magic that comes from fireworks or family vacations, (well…OK— those are really great parts about it too) but the kind that sneaks in with the hum of cicadas and the slow drip of a melting popsicle. It’s a nostalgia-soaked kind of wonder—the kind that lives in bare feet on hot pavement, the smell of chlorine and cut grass, and the timeless thrill of chasing lightning bugs with nothing but a jar and a little bit of hope.

Buckallew Honored with Bench at Junction Park

BROOKFIELD - Brookfield Junction Park recently dedicated a memorial bench at the Brookfield Junction Park in honor of a past board member who was also a founding member. Gene Buckallew’s memory lives on in the park and there is also a plaque honoring his dedication to the park. Buckallew was a retired railroader was instrumental in helping to get the board started. The board helps to educate people in the present and future about railroads and the impact they’ve had on establishing Brookfield into what it is today. His wife, Wanda, children and grandchildren came to see the bench.
