LINN COUNTY – Drivers across northeast Missouri are being warned to keep their phones down and their seat belts buckled as Troop B of the Missouri State Highway Patrol kicks off a hands-free enforcement campaign. The operation will run through July 13 and is aimed at cracking down on distracted driving and other traffic violations that contribute to crashes.
During the 10-day campaign, Troop B officers will be on heightened alert for drivers using cell phones or other handheld devices while operating a vehicle. In addition to monitoring phone use, troopers will also be enforcing seat belt compliance and keeping an eye out for traffic infractions known to lead to accidents.
Troop B patrols a 16-county region in northeast Missouri that includes Adair, Chariton, Clark, Knox, Lewis, Linn, Macon, Marion, Monroe, Putnam, Ralls, Randolph, Schuyler, Scotland, Shelby and Sullivan counties.
The campaign is part of a broader statewide effort to improve roadway safety, reduce distracted driving incidents, and save lives. Officials urge drivers to stay alert, drive hands-free, and make safe choices behind the wheel.
