JEFFERSON CITY – Brandon Roberts, City Manager of the City of Brookfield, has been awarded the distinguished designation of Certified Municipal Official (CMO) through the Missouri Municipal League’s (MML) Municipal Governance Institute (MGI).
The Municipal Governance Institute was established by the MML Board of Directors to offer specialized training for elected officials and professional staff, helping them gain the skills and knowledge needed for effective municipal leadership. To receive this designation, participants must complete a minimum of 16 credit hours of training approved by the MGI.
Roberts achieved this milestone by attending various MGI-endorsed educational sessions, both regionally and statewide. His training covered critical areas of local governance, including:
• Council meeting procedures and parliamentary law;
• Missouri’s Open Meetings and Records Law;
• Conflicts of interest and the State Ethics Law;
• Mayor and council duties;
• Tort liability and personnel law;
• Purchasing and bidding requirements;
• Municipal revenue sources; and
• Emergency management and budgeting.
“All MGI graduates spend many hours over several years attending workshops and lectures on the finer points of municipal government,” said Richard Sheets, Executive Director of the Missouri Municipal League. “Earning the CMO designation is a significant achievement, and I commend our graduates for their dedication and motivation to become better informed and more effective municipal officials.”
The Missouri Municipal League, founded in 1934, represents nearly 650 cities and towns across the state. Its mission is to bring municipal officials together in a spirit of fellowship and professional development, promoting responsible and effective local governance for the betterment of Missouri communities.
