• VFW Post 4557 is continuing its tradition of serving Saturday morning breakfasts every weekend in January and February. The breakfasts will take place at 115 E Wood Street in Brookfield from 7-10 a.m.
Guests can enjoy a menu featuring biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, hash browns, pancakes, sausage patties, juice, and coffee. The event is open to the public and offers an opportunity to support local veterans while enjoying a warm, homemade breakfast. The venue is handicap accessible.
• The Laclede Sportsman’s Club invites the community to enjoy a delicious Steak Feed, from 5-8 p.m., the Lambert Building in Laclede will be filled with the aroma of mouthwatering steaks and the camaraderie of neighbors and friends. For $25, attendees will be treated to a T-bone steak, baked potato, salad, Texas toast, and a choice of coffee or tea. A kids hamburger plate is also available for $6, ensuring something for everyone.
• Beginners Sourdough Workshop on Saturday, Feb. 8. This immersive, hands-on class promises to help aspiring bakers master the art of sourdough breadmaking with confidence and creativity.
The workshop will take place at the Linneus Community Building, located at 103 W. Park Street in Linneus from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. For an entry fee of $100 per person, participants will receive all the essentials needed to kickstart their sourdough journey. This includes a sourdough starter, basic tools, an instruction booklet, and the first loaf of dough. Attendees will also gain access to a private Facebook community for ongoing help and encouragement.
The class will cover key topics such as caring for a sourdough starter, crafting artisan sourdough bread, understanding basic rules of fermentation, and learning how the dough should feel during preparation.
Seats for this unique workshop are limited, so early registration is encouraged. To secure a spot, interested participants can email shebakesohmy@aol.com. This is an opportunity to unleash creativity and learn the timeless skill of sourdough breadmaking in a fun environment.

• Founder’s Day Chili Cook-Off at the Walsworth Community Center, located at 124 E. Ritchie Avenue. The event, hosted by the Downtown Marceline Foundation, is scheduled from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. Admission is $10, which includes samples from all 10 contestants, a bowl of chili, and a variety of toppings. The event will also feature cinnamon roll sales by Parks Work, with proceeds benefiting the South Park Playground Project. Friends of the Pool will be selling drinks to raise funds for the 2025 Winter Dome project.

The evening will begin with a social hour at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. Attendees can enjoy a delicious meal as they celebrate the achievements of local contributors and participate in an exciting auction. Tickets for the event are $35 per person, including dinner. Sponsorship opportunities are available for $100.
