The Linn County Commission met on July 19 with Commissioners King, Murrain and Muck and Clerk Stephenson present. Commissioner King called the meeting to order.
The Brookfield Rotary Club donated $500 to the Linn County Animal Shelter at its July 26 meeting. The shelter is in need of monetary donations along with blue Dawn dish soap, new or used flat sheets, kitty litter, paper towels, toilet paper and bleach. Donations can be dropped off between 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesday-Friday or 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m., on Saturday. The shelter is located at 29205 Highway 11 in Brookfield.

Planting native species is gaining in popularity and I often receive questions inquiring about the best native trees to plant and what are the best native plants to encourage pollinators. While this is a broad topic, there are some general ways to get started. During the heat of summer is a good time to make plans for what to plant in the fall or next spring. It may seem too early but there are many things to consider, and early planning is one key to success.

There is a $3 suggested contribution for meals for those 60 years and over and $6.75 cost for meals for those 59 years and under. Meals are delivered Monday thru Friday, from 10:30 – 12:00, except on holidays.
