Brookfield VFW Patriot Pen Winner
Lucy Kjos, a Linn County Home Schooler, won the Brookfield General John J Pershing Post 4557 Patriot Pen Essay Contest. Tuesday evening, May 17, 2022, at the Brookfield VFW hall, Kjos read her winning essay, "My Pledge to Our Veterans." The essay contest encourages youth to examine American history along with their own experiences by drafting a 300-400 word essay.
Sorosis Study Club Honors Luncheon
Recently the Sorosis Club held its annual Study Club Honors Luncheon for qualifying Marceline High School students. Participants for each class are listed under each class photo.
Sharp Wins FutureBuilders Scholarship
Alexandra Sharp, a senior from the Brookfield R-III School District, is the regional winner of a $1000 scholarship awarded by FutureBuilders, the education foundation of the Missouri School Boards’ Association.

At the April 5 meeting of the Brookfield City Council, after swearing in re-elected Lonnie Trentham and former long-time council member Jack Forbes, the council chose to appoint Lonnie Trentham for another term as mayor.

The Legion Auxiliaries in Linn County--Browning, Bucklin and Linneus--are distributing poppies May 26 at Wal-Mart from 9 a.m. to noon, on May 27 at Prenger's from 9 a.m. to noon and at Orscheln's from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

There is a $3 suggested contribution for meals for those 60 years and over and $6.75 cost for meals for those 59 years and under. Meals are delivered Monday thru Friday, from 10:30 a.m., – 12 p.m., except on holidays.
