The VFW Post #4557 student of the month of February is Brookfield High School Senior, Niko Speer. He was chosen for terrific effort in the classroom, and for best meeting February’s featured attribute of Fairness. Speer is shown receiving a certificate from VFW Post #4557 Recruitment/Retention Officer Joe Pointon.

Historically Yours: In The Beginning…From Discontented Colonists To The United States Of America

Contrary to history books, the United States of America didn’t begin functioning as a nation on July 4, 1776. It was a gradual process beginning with discontented colonists in the 1760s, to acts of defiance until war broke out in 1775, followed by the Declaration of Independence in 1776, and finally the Constitution as passed by the constitutional convention on September 17, 1787. It took until June 21, 1788, for the Constitution to be ratified. At that time, Congress set elections to take place from Monday, December 15, 1788, through Saturday, January 10, 1789, with the new government to begin on Wednesday, March 4, 1789.

Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre Resumes 60th Anniversary Season With “Our Town”

The Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre resumes its 60th anniversary season with a series of spring productions, beginning with Thornton Wilder’s beloved American classic, Our Town, March 2-6. Our Town is widely regarded as the greatest American play ever written and follows the small town of Grover’s Corners through three acts: “Daily Life,” “Love and Marriage,” and “Death and Eternity.” The production is narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets.

Birding workshop March 14

A free Birding Workshop and hike will be held from 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m., on March 14 at Wallace State near Cameron. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is hosting the free program with MDC conservation educator Adam Bransgaard will lead the hike and discuss bird species commonly spotted in winter, what natural habitats attract birds, and how to identify birds. Winter is a good time for birding, since the lack of foliage makes spotting them easier.
