LACLEDE – In the quiet community of Laclede, history is never far away. In fact, it’s all around. American history is tucked into our small community right here off U.S. Highway 36. It was here that General John J. Pershing, commander of the American Expeditionary Forces in World War I, spent his boyhood. His leadership and legacy have made this small town a proud cornerstone of American military history. Each year, the community comes together for Pershing Days, a celebration that honors both its most famous son and the men and women who have worn the uniform of the United States military. This year’s festival, set for Sept. 12–14, carries special weight as it salutes the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Army, Navy and Marine Corps.
