New Banners Brighten Downtown Marceline

MARCELINE - Downtown Marceline is sporting a fresh new look this spring, thanks to the installation of vibrant new banners along Main Street USA. The colorful additions are already turning heads, making the downtown district more welcoming and easier to spot for both visitors and shoppers. The project is part of the Downtown Marceline Foundation’s ongoing mission to enhance the small-town charm and experience of the area.

Brookfield FCCLA State Leadership Conference

Ashley Haley, a Brookfield R-III junior, attended the 2025 Missouri Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) State Leadership Conference, March 16-18, 2025, at Margaritaville Lake Resort and Conference Center in Osage Beach. Almost 1,283 delegates from across the state represented more than 9,263 members of Missouri FCCLA. Local chapter advisers Mrs. Burns and Mrs. Rardon also attended.

2025 BHS Hall of Fame Honorees

BROOKFIELD - The Brookfield Alumni Association is proud to announce the 13th year of BHS Hall of Fame recognition. Honorees for 2025 will be Becky Clark Cleveland, Jeff Elliott, and Carole Kennedy. The Hall of Fame recognizes and honors those who have contributed significantly to the enhancement of the academics, athletics, or extra-curricular traditions of the Brookfield R-III School District or BHS alumni who have outstanding accomplishments since BHS attendance. Their names will be placed on the perpetual plaque displayed at the high school and will be honored at 8:15 a.m., on May 2, along with the honoring of the Class of 2025 Seniors. A reception to honor the Hall of Fame inductees will follow in the high school media center. The public is invited to attend.

Red Flag Warnings Issued Through March

LINN COUNTY - High wind warnings and wind advisories took precedence during this month due to low-pressure storm systems and varying temperature fronts moving throughout the Midwest, particularly through Linn County along the Highway 36 corridor. So did the number of fire reports throughout Linn County, according to area fire departments.

Linn County Health Department to Offer Safe Sitter Class on April 18

The Linn County Health Department is offering an upcoming Safe Sitter Essentials class on Friday, April 18 from 9:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. at their office located at 635 South Main Street in Brookfield. This training is designed to equip young individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to safely care for themselves and others, whether at home alone, babysitting, or supervising younger siblings.
