By Chelsea Corkins Our hot Missouri summers have not kept local 4-Hers from one of the Midwest’s most recognizable youth activities. During June, July, and August, many counties across Missouri hold County Fairs, with most incorporating some component of animal and livestock shows.

USDA Increases Funding For Partnerships To Safeguard, Restore Wetland Ecosystems

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is investing up to $20 million in fiscal year 2023 to help conservation partners nationwide protect and restore critical wetlands through the Wetland Reserve Enhancement Partnership (WREP). USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is prioritizing proposals that support efforts to mitigate climate change by restoring wetlands while also prioritizing assistance to underserved communities. Last year, NRCS funded $11 million in partnerships. Proposals from partners are due Sept. 23, 2022.

Northwest Missouri Coalition For Roadway Safety Grant Funds Available

Over the last several years, agencies and organizations across Northwest Missouri have received funding for programs aimed at reducing injuries and fatalities on our roadways. With preliminary reports showing 49 fatalities within the northwest region’s 20 counties during 2021, the work is not over yet. To assist agencies in the fight towards zero deaths in Northwest Missouri, and across the state, the Northwest Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety (NWMCRS) is once again offering grants for highway and traffic safety programs and resources.

Galloway Detail The Nearly $8 Billion Missouri Has Received In Federal Relief For COVID-19

Through end of March 2022, state had spent more than $6 billion in federal stimulus dollars intended for COVID-19 response from CARES Act, American Rescue Plan and other programs The latest monthly reports from State Auditor Nicole Galloway detailing state government's use of federal stimulus dollars intended for the COVID-19 response shows Missouri received $7.92 billion between April 2020 and March 2022. As the state's financial watchdog, the State Auditor's Office has issued the reports since June 2020 examining Missouri government's distribution and spending of funding received under the federal CARES Act, American Rescue Plan and other federal assistance programs.

Take Precautions To Prevent Wildfires In Dry Weather

Fire danger is a serious threat to much of the country. Alaska, California, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Washington and many more states are currently battling wildfires. While lightning and other natural causes are responsible for some of these fires, human error can be blamed for many. Precaution could save tens of thousands of acres and more importantly, lives.

School Buses, Young Drivers, Children Walking … Must Be Time For Students To Return To School!

August has arrived and with it the 2022-2023 school year. The Missouri State Highway Patrol would like to encourage parents to include conversations about safety when preparing their student for school. It’s also important that drivers be prepared for the change in traffic patterns as students begin another year of instruction. In 2021, one person was killed and 217 injured in traffic crashes involving a school bus. In Missouri last year, 794 traffic crashes involved school buses. R-III Board Approves Bid For New Greenhouses, Gas, Tires

The Brookfield R-III Board of Education, Brookfield, Missouri met in open session on Tuesday, July 19, in person in the HS Media Center. The following board members were present: Jim McIntyre, Blake DeVoy, Dave Shaw, Noel Staddie, and Ryan Burns. Jered Wallace was absent. President McIntyre called the meeting to order and led those in attendance in the Pledge of Allegiance, according to Superintendent Dr. Kyle Collins report 'The Gist'.
