Linda Haley and Janean Faux, members of the Daughters of the American Revolution Marceline Continental Congress Marceline Chapter, presented the Bucklin American Legion Green Hills Post 57 an American flag that flew over George Washington 's Mt. Vernon residence and then subsequently was flown over the Marceline Carnegie Public Library on it's 100th birthday. The presentation took place Sunday evening June 19, 2022, at the Bucklin Legion Hall.

The U.S. Department of Education announced that North Central Missouri College (NCMC) will receive a federal Upward Bound grant of $1,488,005 or $297,601 annually for five years to help more low-income students who would be the first members of their families to earn degrees to prepare for and enroll in college. NCMC has sponsored an Upward Bound Program since 1999 and serves 50 students per year. The high schools that will be served in the successful grant include Trenton, Brookfield, Chillicothe, Gallatin, Penney (Hamilton), and Tri-County (Jamesport).
Missouri State Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick is launching an annual effort to return Unclaimed Property to Missourians. The names of more than 129,400 individuals, small businesses, and non-profit organizations with Unclaimed Property are listed in over 100 publications across the state. Missourians can also search and view the lists by county on Show-MeMoney.com.
Dave Tavres is the new executive director of Downtown Marceline. A Los Angeles native, Tavres grew up near Disneyland and in 2002 he became a history tour guide and locomotive engineer, which is how his journey to Marceline ultimately began.
The human toll cancer takes is significant, both on the lives it claims and on the friends and family of those victims. Estimates from the International Agency for Research on Cancer indicated 10 million individuals across the globe lost their lives to cancer (excluding nonmelanoma skin cancer) in 2020. New research indicates those numbers could be on the rise.
The We Care Volunteers with Main Street Brookfield have been working hard the past few weeks sprucing up the downtown area just in time for summer. Projects have included painting of the underpass railing, planting and upkeep of flowers downtown and cleaning of the Twin Parks. Crews with the City of Brookfield assisted by hanging signs on the light poles as well. Members of Brookfield High School Student Council also helped with cleaning of the park.
The Linn County Commission met on June 7 with Commissioners King, Murrain and Muck and Clerk Stephenson present. Commissioner King called the meeting to order.
