11 Traffic Fatalities, No Boating Fatalities, One Drowning Over Memorial Day Weekend

Eleven people died in traffic crashes over the 2022 Memorial Day weekend counting period of 6 p.m., Friday, May 27, through 11:59 p.m., Monday, May 30. Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers investigated 304 traffic crashes, with 115 injuries, 121 driving while intoxicated arrests were made along with 79 drug arrests.

NCMC Hosts FFA Officer Training

The Missouri FFA Association conducted officer-training workshops on the North Central Missouri College (NCMC) campus in Trenton on Wednesday, June 1. Approximately 200 Chapter FFA officers and advisors from high schools across northwest Missouri participated in the workshops.

Surviving Tough Times

Most producers in northwest Missouri never had the opportunity to work with or meet Eldon Cole. Eldon was a Livestock Specialist for University of Missouri Extension in southwest Missouri for 58 years. Eldon passed away in April of this year. He had tremendous impact on the beef industry of Missouri and will be greatly missed. In his last newsletter, he included an article on surviving tough times. I thought it was fitting to share his nuggets of wisdom.

The True Blue Club met Thursday, May 19, in the home of Dorothy Crookshanks with Cheryl Maggart as assistant hostess. Devotion was several items about mothers. Roll call was "my most memorable time with my mother." Hostess gift and game prizes were won by Janet Meek. A card was sent to Connie Sallee. Next meeting will be lunch at a Chillicothe restaurant on June 16.

Governor Parson Grants 18 Pardons

For the month of May 2022, Governor Mike Parson granted 18 pardons pursuant to Article IV, Section 7 of the Constitution of the State of Missouri. Official documents have been filed with the appropriate government agencies and have been sent to the individuals. Families have been or are in the process of being notified.

Suspected Serial Killer Charged In Missouri Over 7th Death

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A suspected serial killer already charged in six killings in the Kansas City and St. Louis areas has been charged with first-degree murder in a seventh death. Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced the new murder charge Friday against Perez Deshay Reed. Baker also charged Reed with one count of armed criminal action and two counts of fraud involving a credit or debit device.
