North Central Missouri College (NCMC) recently held a flag-raising ceremony to welcome international students from the Kingdom of Tonga, their families, and the community. NCMC has developed a partnership with Tongan officials and will soon be enrolling international students from the Kingdom of Tonga.
On May 1 the Grand River Historical Society and Museum is hosting a Spring Tea and the opening of several new exhibits at the Museum on May 1. New exhibits include one about Jerry Litton, Canterbury Music Store and the Utica Brick Plant.
The Thompson River, Weldon River and No Creek located in Harrison, Mercer, Grundy, Daviess and Livingston counties in Northwest Missouri have reached a level of E. coli pollution that they have been placed on Missouri's 303(d) list of “Impaired Waters” with a "High" level of concern. E. coli is present in feces and can be an indicator that other, more dangerous bacteria, may be present. Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) reports that most of this pollution on these water bodies is coming from agricultural runoff.
The Marceline Rural Fire Department has added Tanker 112 to its fleet. Tanker 112 is a 2001 Freightliner Tanker/Pumper that was purchased from Upstate New York to replace the department's 1978 Chevrolet Tanker. The Rural Fire Board for approved this purchase and Corey Ludington with Ludington Trucking made the trip to and from New York to haul the truck back. This truck will be put into service shortly after all the Door decals and equipment are installed.
The Brookfield R-III Board of Education, Brookfield, Missouri met in open session on April 12, with all board members in attendance. According to "The Gist," By Superintendent Dr. Kyle Collins, the board approved the agenda and the consent agenda items unanimously.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has once again sent a letter toSullivan County Prosecuting Attorney Brian Keedy asking again for a criminal investigation regarding workers at the Smithfield Fresh Meats' Milan plant after the organization obtained documentation from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) revealing that workers allegedly struck pigs with a hard plastic paddle, including in the head, at the plant near Milan in November of 2021.
Marceline High School Prom Royalty named The 2022 Marceline High School Prom Royalty is as follows: Queen Candidates: Ramzee Bruner, Chloee Dorrell and Rhea Krumpleman. King Candidates: Landen Gardner, Jack McCauslin and Jaxon Schmitt.
Linn County businesses and individuals sponsored Brookfield High School students: Victor Davis, Xander Waugh, and Ethan Huwar, attending the 2022 Missouri Boys State, June 11-18, at St. Charles Lindenwood University. Sponsors are: Linn County Court Judges Terry Tschannenen and William Devoy, Bank of Purdin-Brookfield, Brookfield Elks and Brookfield Lions.
Recently, Aiden Cagle and Teagan Christy were named Marceline Middle and High School Students of the Week. Cagle's activities include band and golf. He enjoys gaming and golfing along with hanging out with friends and family. Christy's activities include band, choir, and acting at the Maples Rep. She enjoys riding her bike and hanging out with friends and family.
