Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment – of both men and women – can be a serious issue in agriculturals settings, especially in large scale farming operations. In Washington State, where large scale operations are common, a groundswell of concern about identifying sexual harassment, giving victims resources for resolving the behavior, and providing training tools for employers so they can recognize and confront sexual harassment in their workplace led to development of that state’s “!BASTA! Prevent Sexual Harassment in Agriculture.” More than 60 agribusinesses and multiple governmental agencies supported and contributed to development of the training manual.

Rate Increase For Linn-Livingston PSWD #3 Customers Effective May 1

A water rate increase will go into effect for the May 1, 2022 utility bills, according to a press release from Board President Jerry Norman. In a release on social media, Norman said, the new rate will reflect a $5 increase per 1000 gallons. The availability and meter read rate will remain the same. The past several years the availability fee has been $17.50 with a meter read fee of $2.50. The base rate also included the first 1000 gallons at $9. A minimum water user that used less than 1000 gallons would be billed $29 for a water bill. With the rates proposed and passed the availability fee will remain $17.50, the meter fee will also remain $2.50 but the first 1000 gallons will now be $14. This will generate the minimum user bill to be $34. For every 1000 gallons used the charge is $14.

Second And Seventh Legislative District Lincoln Days Luncheon April 23

The annual Second and Seventh Legislative District Lincoln Days Luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m., April 23 and will feature Missouri Senators Josh Hawley and Roy Blunt. The event, hosted by the Grundy County Republican Central Committee, will feature linch at 12 p.m., at the Ketcham Community Center on the North Central Missouri College campus in Trenton.

A Farm Bureau Fellowship meeting was held on April 13 at Shelbina. Those from Linn County who attended were Marc and Brooke Zell, Philip and Heather Martin, Terrill and Dana Lane, Steve and Jill Hardy and Donald Herring. American Legion Auxiliary Unit 538, Linneus, met on Monday, April 11, at the Thorne Center in Linneus. The following officers were approved for 2022-23: President: Danelle Herring, Secretary/Treasurer: Eudora Fitzpatrick, Chaplain: Mary Ham, Historian: Pat Wood, Sgt. at Arms: Donna Rollison. Next meeting will be Monday, May 9, 4 p.m. at the Thorne Center.

New Members Sworn In, Outgoing Members Honored

At a special meeting of the Marceline City Council on Tuesday, April 12, tow new members were sworn in while two outgoing members were honored for their service to the city. The council began by certifying election results, which City Clerk Lindsay Krumpelman noted has changed slightly. The votes for the sales tax increase to be earmarked for public safety increased with one additional vote for "yes" and one additional vote for "no" bringing the official count to 71 "yes votes and 70 "no" votes.
