JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Missouri Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that state lawmakers have illegally limited citizens' right to weigh in on laws, a decision that could make it easier for people to force a statewide vote on laws they don't like in the future.
During the course of a day, each Brookfield police officer responds to calls for service, makes and answers several phone calls, conducts traffic stops and answers questions from citizens and other agencies.
A new community education course at North Central Missouri College (NCMC) is now enrolling participants for Computer Basics for the Mature Learner. This non-credit course is open to members of the public, and enrollees do not need to be NCMC students. Computer Basics for the Mature Learner will be on Mondays from 6-8 p.m. on Feb. 28, March 7, March 14 and March 21 on the NCMC Main Campus in Hoffman Hall 101 in Trenton.

JEFFERSON CITY — Hundreds of inmates in county jails throughout Missouri are awaiting inpatient psychiatric care but can’t receive it due to severe staff shortages at state hospitals. “We are truly struggling with a workforce crisis,” Valerie Huhn, director of the Department of Mental Health, told state representatives at a hearing last week.

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer a free Prescribed Burning for Missouri Land Managers workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Poosey Conservation Area in Livingston County. This workshop will teach the skills and techniques to safely and effectively use prescribed burns as a habitat or forage management tool.
On Feb. 8, Rocky L. Coyle, Brookfield, was sentenced to 14 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections after being found guilty of two counts of 2nd degree child molestation and 1st degree sexual abuse.
The Missouri Feral Hog Elimination Partnership (the Partnership) removed 9,857 feral hogs from the landscape in 2021, making the total number of feral hogs eliminated more than 54,000 since 2016. The Partnership is made up of 13 federal and state agencies along with numerous agriculture and conservations organizations.
