Marceline 2021 State Of The City Address

2021 ushered in the beginning of an exciting and energetic year for Marceline with new residents, new housing construction, and new business openings - a renaissance if you will – the likes of which we haven’t seen in years! The influx of out of-state license plates and new faces brings new investments in the community as well as business and employment opportunities. Why Marceline? Many factors can be attributed to this trend, including high-speed internet access, tourism, quality education, lower cost of living and the results of the city’s ongoing efforts to ensure a high quality of life through reliable utilities, good roads, and safe and clean neighborhoods. We are very optimistic this growth will continue in the coming year with the sound of heavy machinery, saws and hammers filling the air.

Warm December

Thoughts of a white Christmas were all but banished as temperatures rose to unseasonably warm this December. Critters normally in hibernation and brumation — hibernation for coldblooded animals — were poking their heads out even on Christmas Eve, like the bee who stung a reporter at Cruse Dog Park or the black rat snake former Outdoors Reporter Wes Johnson found on the Fellows Lake bike trail.

Changes coming to Wildlife Code of Missouri

Snagging paddlefish in the near future will mean brushing up on the latest regulation changes regarding fishing methods, commercial fishing and more. Let’s dive in! Following a public comment period earlier this year, the Missouri Conservation Commission gave its final approval to several regulation changes to the Wildlife Code of Missouri by the Department of Conservation.

PHS DONATES OVER $4,000 TO THE LINN COUNTY KIDS CHRISTMAS

The staff at Pershing Health System (PHS) has taken its Holiday Community Service project and surpassed all expectations with their generosity for the children and families in Linn County. This year, Pershing Health System partnered with the 9th Circuit Juvenile Office as part of the Linn County Kids Christmas Project. PHS staff joined in the Holiday Community Service project by adopting 48 children and donating an estimated $4,564 in clothing, toys, bedding, and other needed items to these local area children. An additional $495 in monetary donations was also given to the Juvenile Office to use to purchase Christmas gifts for other children in the community in addition to the 48 children adopted by PHS staff. This monetary donation was provided on behalf of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars, Pershing Auxiliary and PHS staff. COURTESY
