Marceline Historical Society Holds Ceremony for Newest Properties on the National Register of Historic Places

MARCELINE - On May 17 at the Marceline Masonic Lodge, the official Marceline Historical Society (501c3, trademarked) presented four more Marceline properties with plaques commemorating the addition of the Gucker Coal Office, Marceline Masonic Temple (which hosted the event), First Christian Church and Lincoln School.

Linn County R-I Invites Families to “Join the Adventure” at Summer Library Events

LINN COUNTY - Linn County R-I is bringing books, fun, and adventure to local parks with their 2025 Summer Library program. Aimed at creating a safe, enriching, and exciting experience for young readers, the mobile library events will take place over three days in early July and are completely free to attend. Events will be held in three main parks in that area, Linneus Park, Purdin Park, and Browning Park, with a new adventure to be had at each one every day.

Buckallew Honored with Bench at Junction Park

BROOKFIELD - Brookfield Junction Park recently dedicated a memorial bench at the Brookfield Junction Park in honor of a past board member who was also a founding member. Gene Buckallew’s memory lives on in the park and there is also a plaque honoring his dedication to the park. Buckallew was a retired railroader was instrumental in helping to get the board started. The board helps to educate people in the present and future about railroads and the impact they’ve had on establishing Brookfield into what it is today. His wife, Wanda, children and grandchildren came to see the bench.
