This year’s first Main Street Cruise Night was held on May 20 in downtown Marceline. The event, hosted by the Marceline Police Department will be held beginning at 6 p.m., on June 17, July 15 and August 19. Dusty Morris, shown on the left, reminisced about how he acquired his 1973 Mustang. His wife, who had served in the Marines, first bought the car while she was in high school, then sold it and bought it back. Morris said that one of the biggest reasons that car shows and Main Street cruises are gaining popularity in North Missouri is all about “bringing back the old muscle” and getting together to “rev’ em up”. A Thunderbird, driven by Brian Burgener, showed up on the scene during the Cruisin’ Main Street event at Marceline. Several Marceline alumni brought their restored cars to Main Street USA and parked their cars and trucks for pictures and for onlookers to see.

The American Legion Family called upon Congress to proclaim the Friday before Memorial Day as National Poppy Day, which was officially designated as such in 2017.
Human Development & Family Science Field Specialist for the University of Missouri Extension May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Since it is an excellent time to bring awareness to this subject, let’s look at some of the research about mental health and the challenges that we are facing. Mental illnesses are common in the United States. More than one in five U.S. adults is estimated to live with a mental illness (57.8 million in 2021). Now that number is tough to imagine, so let’s take that number down a little—1 in 5 adults in Missouri, which would be about 1,228,000 Missourians. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 1 in 20 U.S. adults experience severe mental illness yearly. But it isn’t just adults facing these challenges; it’s our children.
