Marceline R-V School Board starts summer and fall planning

The Marceline R-V School Board met on May 15, 2023, at the Central Office meeting room. Discussion and action items included field construction for Chester Ray Stadium, conference schedules and expenditures to be approved, and end-of-year reports. Guests included members of the Marceline chapters of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and Future Farmers of America (FFA), along with their respective sponsors Erin Evans and Bailey Henry. Also attending the meeting were representatives of L.J. Hart & Company, a municipal bond underwriting and advisory firm based in Chesterfield, MO.

2023 Honors Luncheon

The 66th Annual Honors Luncheon, hosted by the Sorosis Study Club, was held Wednesday, May 3, at St. Mary’s Hall, Wien. Marceline R-V High School students maintaining a minimum 3.5 GPA throughout the school year are invited to the annual event and recognized for their achievement. This year’s guest speaker was Brookfield Chamber of Commerce President, Chase McPherson. McPherson spoke to the students about the importance of hardwork, setting goals and not being afraid to make life changes.

Poppy sales May 25-26 The American Legion Auxiliaries of Linn County will be distributing poppies in Brookfield on May 25 and 26. The poppy became a symbol of sacrifice during World War I in Europe where many wild poppies bloomed.

In the Missouri Humanities 2024 Small Town Showcase area residents are being asked to cote for Marceline, and vote often. The Missouri Humanities is a statewide nonprofit and affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities and they say “We are not a flyover state, We are the heart of America!” VOTE for Marceline as a 2024 “Featured Five Community”.

American Legion Auxiliary encourages

communities to honor fallen warriors on National Poppy Day Honor our fallen warriors and contribute to the continuing needs of our veterans on National Poppy Day, May 26, 2023 from 9 a.m., to 12 p.m., at various locations across the area when members of American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) distribute bright red poppies in exchange for a donation. The Flanders Fields poppy has become an internationally known and recognized symbol of the lives sacrificed in war and the hope that none died in vain. The American Legion Family called upon Congress to proclaim the Friday before Memorial Day as National Poppy Day, which was officially designated as such in 2017.

Mental Health Awareness Month

Human Development & Family Science Field Specialist for the University of Missouri Extension May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Since it is an excellent time to bring awareness to this subject, let’s look at some of the research about mental health and the challenges that we are facing. Mental illnesses are common in the United States. More than one in five U.S. adults is estimated to live with a mental illness (57.8 million in 2021). Now that number is tough to imagine, so let’s take that number down a little—1 in 5 adults in Missouri, which would be about 1,228,000 Missourians. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 1 in 20 U.S. adults experience severe mental illness yearly. But it isn’t just adults facing these challenges; it’s our children.
