Poppy sales May 25-26 The American Legion Auxiliaries of Linn County will be distributing poppies in Brookfield on May 25 and 26. The poppy became a symbol of sacrifice during World War I in Europe where many wild poppies bloomed.

19, July 3 & 17, and August 7 & 21. Hours of operation are 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month and serves only residents within the Marceline R-V School District area. First-time recipients must bring proof of residence, such as a utility bill, and a state-issued photo identification (Missouri driver’s license or non-driver license). Once registered, recipients will only need to check in when they arrive at the next open date.
April, May “This Place Matters” winners
“This Place Matters” – Main Street Brookfield would like to recognize Improvement Spotlights for the months of April and May: UMB, for replacement of their concrete entryway sidewalks and ramps, O’Reilly Auto for their new concrete parking lot, and City Hall for their new exterior paint. Thank you Brookfield for showing your hometown pride!
Construction underway at new multipurpose court at Disney Park
Parks Work in partnership with the City of Marceline has begun construction on the new multipurpose court at Disney Park. The courts will include two pickleball courts and a full basketball court. The City of Marceline removed the old court in early March and we’re hoping to pour the new pad in early summer. After the concrete is poured we’ll then move towards the painting of the court, fencing, goals and nets. The final phase will be lighting.
Brookfield R-III honors 69 graduates at Commencement 2023
The Brookfield R-III School District administration and Board of Education presented diplomas to 69 graduating seniors at this year’s commencement exercises on May 14, 2023. Due to the weekend’s weather conditions, the commencement exercises were held in the Brookfield High School Fieldhouse.

There is a $3 suggested contribution for meals for those 60 years and over and $6.75 cost for meals for those 59 years and under. Meals are delivered Monday thru Friday, from 10:30 a.m., – 12 p.m., except on holidays.
Commission meeting minutes for May 2
The Linn County Commission met on May 2 with Commissioners King, Murrain and Muck and Clerk Stephenson present. Commissioner King called the meeting to order.

Council adopts new Mt. Olivet Cemetery policy
